The thing I love about being in the residence halls is the community building that happens outside the classroom. You never forget your first year experience.

Undergraduate Admission

Major in Art

Art graduates enjoy careers in the visual arts, art and art history education, design and advertising. Careers for art students include graphic design, advertising, photography, computer graphics, book design, and work in the theater, motion picture, and television industries

To build an exceptional career in visual and creative arts, it takes a combination of traditional and contemporary art education combined with hands-on experience.

Art degrees incorporate a general foundation in historical and modern art with studio classes that strengthen students' visual imagery, creative skills, and analytical thinking. Emphasizing individualized attention and creative motivation, the program combines a wide range of academic and art disciplines with real-world experience, philosophies, and attitudes. Students choose either a standard art major curriculum or the art major with a concentration in design, which incorporates advanced courses in computer graphics.

To enhance their creative skills and prepare them for professional work, students learn how to use sophisticated computer graphics programs that rely on the latest software and configurations.

Students are encouraged to participate in University-sponsored projects and tours abroad. Many art majors study at the Studio Art Center International in Florence, Italy or other programs, for one semester.

Art majors accept internships at area museums and centers and have opportunities to participate in performances by Cal Lutheran's drama and music departments. Art majors also take advantage of the many museums and architectural landmarks that grace the Southern California landscape, including J. Paul Getty Museum, Norton Simon Museum, Pacific-Asia Museum, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Museum of Contemporary Art, Armand Hammer Museum, and many more.

The Capstone course (Interdisciplinary Arts), required of all art majors, assists students with the practical tools for various careers in the arts and/or preparation for graduate school. In conjunction with this course, senior art majors collaboratively design and install an exhibition in the Kwan Fong Gallery of Art and Culture which highlights their own artworks.
