Dr. Marichal is a professor of political science at California Lutheran University. He specializes in studying the role social media plays on political life.  In 2012, he published Facebook Democracy with Ashgate Press which looks at the role that the popular social network plays on the formation of political identity.  He also does work on the role of diversity in civic life.  Dr. Marichal has also published a number of journal articles. His most recent work is entitled "(Mis)Arguing Diversity: The Weakness of Diversity as a Civic Argument (and how to Make it Stronger)" It will be published in Summer of 2105 in the journal Democratic Theory.
