Why do we need comprehensive immigration reform?

Immigration Community Forum
Thu, Feb 28, 2013 at 6:30 pm

Swenson Center 101

CLU professors Molly George (sociology/criminal justice) and Akiko Yasuike (sociology/global studies) will moderate a panel discussion that focuses on two equally important aspects of undocumented immigration today: Undocumented college students who primarily grew up in the United States and local law enforcement’s increasing role in immigration enforcement.

Both George and Yasuike received a CEJ Fellowship for Research in Serving Communities in the summer of 2012 and have been conducting research projects on these two issues in collaboration with community organizations and student researchers. Yasuike’s research examines the experiences of undocumented youth and George’s research examines the interactions between law enforcement and members of immigrant communities.

Panelists Acrenio Lopez, associate director, Mixteco/Indigena Community Organizing Project; Greg Prieto, PUEBLO board member and Ph.D candidate, Department of Sociology, University of California, Santa Barbara; Commander Eric Sonstegard, Oxnard Police Department; Rocio Ayala, San Fernando Valley Dream Team youth organizer; and Juana Tapia, organizer, Dreamers without Boarders, Clergy and Laity United for Economic Justice - Ventura County will discuss these issues and participate in a dialogue with the audience.

Admission is Free.
