General Information

Registration and Refund Policies:

For some classes, paid registrations received seven (7) or more days before a class begins are entitled to an early registration discount of $25.00 where noted.

A full refund will be issued if a course is canceled or discontinued by CLU.

For most courses a full refund will be issued for student cancellations received at least two days prior to the first class meeting date. Cancellations received less than two days prior to the first class meeting date will be issued credit toward future classes offered by the Center for Continuing and Professional Education.

In no event will a refund or credit be issued if notification of cancellation is received after the first class meeting date. CLU does not automatically drop students from a class if they register but do not attend. Students remain financially responsible for the tuition charges.

A $25 charge is assessed for returned checks and declined credit cards.

The University reserves the right to withhold transcripts, certificates or diplomas until all university bills have been paid, or until satisfactory arrangements have been made with the Business Office/Continuing and Professional Education Office. Students will not be permitted to register for subsequent courses until all outstanding bills are paid.

Personal checks, company purchase orders, Visa, Master Card, Discover may be used for payment. A registration form and instructions are included inside the back cover for your convenience.

Accuracy and Integrity of Information:

Every attempt is made to insure the accuracy and integrity of all information contained in this schedule. California Lutheran University and the Center for Continuing and Professional Education assume no responsibility for printing errors and information furnished to us by others. Courses and programs offered together with other matters contained herein are subject to change without notice at the discretion of the administration of CLU and the Center for Continuing and Professional Education. CLU and the Center for Continuing and Professional Education further reserve the right to add, amend or repeal any of their rules, regulations, policies and procedures. CLU and the Center for Continuing and Professional Education assume no responsibility for any consequences that may arise from a student's decision to enter into a business or professional arrangement with any instructor outside of the University's scheduled activities.

Transcripts for credit participants will be available from the CLU Registrar's Office within six weeks of the course ending date. All requests for transcripts must be made in writing (including manual signature of student) accompanied by a $5.00/transcript fee to: California Lutheran University, Office of the Registrar, 60 W. Students are expected to meet the attendance and performance requirements of each course. For courses meeting less than six (6) sessions, students must attend all sessions. For courses meeting six (6) to eight (8) sessions, students may substitute an outside seminar or independent study for a maximum of one session. For courses meeting nine (9) to twelve (12) sessions, students may substitute outside assignments, projects or seminars for a maximum of two sessions. Outside assignments must be approved by the instructor. Students who do not meet these attendance requirements are subject to receiving a no credit grade or being dropped from the course.

Certificate Application:

Students who plan to earn a professional certificate must submit the Certificate Application, accompanied by a $25 non-refundable application fee, after they begin their fourth course and before they complete their final course in the program. The certificate will be awarded upon verification of satisfactory completion of all required course work.

Course Numbers:

Professional Development Courses for Educators (EDUC 900-999)

Designed to meet professional needs and to update and expand professional knowledge and skills. Credit is available only to educators who have at least a bachelor's degree. Professional Development courses are based on 15 contact hours of satisfactory participation in an organized continuing education program. The credit is not applicable toward a degree. With prior approval from the Dean of the Graduate School of Education, credit may be applied toward a credential. Courses are normally graded on a pass/no credit basis.

Continuing Education Units (CEU 900-999)

The Continuing Education Unit (CEU) is a means for measuring and recording non-credit, post secondary level study. CEU is based on 10 contact hours of satisfactory participation in an organized continuing education program. These courses are not applicable to a degree or credential.

Non-Credit Courses (NCR 900-999)

Persons enrolling in these courses will earn no credit and will receive no grade. Participants may not claim credit or challenge the course for credit at a later date. Admission to the University is not required and there is no limit of the number of non-credit courses a person may take.

Tax Information/ Lifetime Learning Credit

Continuing and Professional Education students may be eligible for the
Lifetime Learning Credit, as established in the Tax Relief Act of 1997. On or about February 1st CLU will provide you with IRS Form 1098-T, and a detailed description of the requirements for claiming a tax credit. California Lutheran University cannot determine if you qualify for this tax credit, we encourage you to contact a professional tax advisor for assistance in claiming this tax benefit.

Library Services:

Continuing and Professional Education students have use of the library and its services, as determined by the library staff. With library staff prior approval, a library card may be obtained by presenting proof of registration at the circulation desk.
