Dr. Kelley teaches mass, interpersonal and campaign communication as well as politics in cinema. She founded the Communication Department in 1980 and served as its chair for 15 years. Of her years as director of forensics from 1977 to 1984, she is proudest of the 1983 junior and senior debate teams that won the New England Regional. She was also named "Outstanding Coach." Dr. Kelley publishes in the subject areas of political communication, credibility theory and pedagogy. Her book Reelpolitik: Political Ideologies in '30s and '40s Films with a foreword by Steve Allen was published by Praeger in December l998. The sequel, Reelpolitik II, focuses on politics in movies of the '50s and '60s and was published in 2004 by Rowman and Littlefield. She is presently finishing up the third and final volume of the Series. She also writes a regular newspaper column for the Ventura County Star and has been a frequent contributor to the Los Angeles Times Ventura County Perspective pages.
