Profile

A manager, leader, and IT professional with 20+ years experience looking to transfer these skills to teaching, training, or skills improvement with motivated professionals.  Particular expertise in RUP, ITIL, Project Management, object oriented analysis and design, database design.  Demonstrated competency in course development, career planning, skills improvement.  A body of experience in leadership, education, and learning combined with some formal training in the teaching arts.

Expertise

Course Design and Implementation

·         Created course materials, mentoring program for managing risk in projects, RUP project management, and requirements elicitation

·         Led the first of these classes to ensure quality of materials and set the bar for learning objectives

·         Led pilot implementations of RUP (replacing a home-grown project management methodology) and developed educational materials and guidance for PMs

·         Drove the ‘mentor factory’ approach to improving RUP skills, increasing the number of experts and leaders 

·         Published standards, templates and course materials to improve the quality of requirements documentation in IT projects 

·         Wrote college level course book for database design.  Developed short course based on this 

·         Created teaching materials and ran workshops enterprise wide for “IT Competency” assessment,

·         Developed architectural (and IT) principles, vision and set up governance processes (Architecture board)

·         Designed and delivered training courses for teaching basic software skills (Word, Excel, etc.)

·         Assisted and lead workshops for career planning and personal development

People Development

·         Took responsibility for Solutions (applications) architecture, developed this team (6-10 people) to a high-performing, well respected group  Implemented consistent engagement processes to better define objectives and success criteria

·         Transitioned a team of 42 developers to a new director who was developed and advanced from within the group

·         Created a team with portfolio of programming skills who could be moved quickly and easily to support project priorities

·         Introduced service-oriented working practices for development to software projects 

·         Technical Career Path guidance establishing promotion criteria, competency levels and other recommendations for career planning

·         College hire recruiting, made presentation at UCLA and other campuses, interviewed candidates

Strategy, Leadership

·         Developed standard formatting for functional area roadmaps enabling fair comparison between the areas at budget planning time

·         Provided Functional Area architecture leadership for Clinical Development IT, rationalizing decision making processes, unifying the architectural choices and simplifying the IT landscape

·         Developed a comprehensive Data Strategy including Data Services, Reference Data Architecture and Data Governance.  Created metrics to report on progress of adoption

·         Strengthened the capabilities for converting the business’ strategic plans into executable action for IT and the architecture team

·         Created Business Modeling CoE, provided modeling tools, and enhanced skills and competencies in documenting business and system requirements.

·         Formed Amgen’s first I.S. architecture group supporting R&D.  Developed standards for database design to ensuring compatibility between systems
