Cal Lutheran Scholarships

Academic Scholarships for 2014-15 Freshmen

Awards ranging from $10,000 to $22,000.

Incoming freshmen students are reviewed and awarded based on their academic records including grades and standardized testing. These scholarships are renewable so long as the student maintains Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) and Institutional Academic Eligibility (IAE).

Academic Scholarships for 2014-15 Transfer Students

Awards ranging from $10,000 to $18,000.

Transfer scholarships are based on a combination of college GPA and the number of transferable credits. Students are encouraged to complete course work that meets CLU's Core Requirements. By doing so, students may increase scholarship eligibility. These scholarships are renewable so long as the student maintains Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) and Institutional Academic Eligibility (IAE).

CLU Presidential Scholarships

Awards ranging from $25,000 up to full tuition.

Presidential Scholarships were established to recognize and reward graduating high school seniors in the top tier of our applicant pool who embody the University’s educational and leadership goals. Students who come to campus for Honors Day will interview for the top scholarships offered by the University.

These scholarships are renewable for up to four years provided the student maintains Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) and Institutional Academic Eligibility (IAE). The scholarships awarded through this program will replace any academic scholarship the student received at the time of admission.  Students must meet the Early Action Application Deadline (November 1st) to be considered for the Presidential Scholarships.

CLU Guarantee Scholarship

CLU offers freshmen and transfer students who are also admitted to UCLA, UCSB, UC Davis, UC Berkeley, or UCSD a renewable scholarship based on the Cost of Attendance (COA) at CLU and these public institutions. The scholarships make the cost of attending CLU approximately the same as the cost of attending one of these five University of California schools.

To receive the CLU Guarantee Scholarship in subsequent years, the student must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress. The scholarships awarded through this program will replace any academic scholarship the student received at the time of admission.

Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) Scholarship

The Visual and Performing Arts have a prestigious home at Cal Lutheran. Whether staging a play in our Blackbox Theatre, touring the world with our Wind Ensemble, or pushing the boundaries of conventional art, our students pursue artistic expression without limits.

Incoming freshman and transfer applicants with superior talent in the areas of Music, Theatre Arts, or Visual Art can apply and audition for a VAPA Scholarship prior to enrolling at Cal Lutheran. Music and Theatre Arts Scholarships can be awarded up to $30,000** and are renewable for up to four years provided the student maintains Satisfactory Academic Progress. For more information on audition requirements please visit the department websites (Music, Theatre Arts, Visual Art).

**Please note that students may audition for scholarships within the Music, Theatre Arts, and Visual Art categories; however, if offered multiple VAPA scholarships, the student can only accept an award from one department and must decline all other offers. The VAPA Scholarship replaces (if higher) any academic scholarship, Presidential Scholarship, or CLU Guarantee Scholarship the student was awarded. Students cannot receive an Academic Scholarship (or Presidential Scholarship), the CLU Guarantee Scholarship, and the VAPA Scholarship at the same time. If a student was awarded an Academic Scholarship (or Presidential Scholarship), or CLU Guarantee scholarship prior to being determined eligible for the VAPA Scholarship, they will be given the option to choose one of the three scholarships they would like use while attending Cal Lutheran. The student must retain the scholarship they choose at that time (Academic/Presidential/CLU Guarantee or VAPA Scholarship) and may not change their award decision after they begin attending Cal Lutheran.
