Important Information Regarding Health Insurance
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), commonly called Obamacare or the Affordable Care Act (ACA), is a United States federal statute. The ACA aims to increase the quality and affordability of health insurance, lower the uninsured rate, and reduce the cost of health care. It provides a number of mechanisms including mandates, subsidies, and insurance exchanges to increase coverage and affordability. An exchange or marketplace is available to California residents to compare pricing and coverage. The California exchange is available through Covered California at www.coveredca.com or 1-800-300-1506. California will begin enrolling eligible residents in health insurance coverage through the exchange effective October 1, 2013 for a coverage effective date of January 2014.
