Position TitleAssessment Director & Lecturer
DepartmentGraduate School of Education
Basic FunctionReporting to the Dean of the Graduate School of Education (GSOE), this individual coordinates and performs activities related to Assessment, Teacher Performance Assessment (TPA), and TaskStream and will be responsible for any other activities related to assessment and/or accreditation. This individual will also teach one 3-unit course each semester in the GSOE. This position provides key strategic leadership in the implementation of education initiatives as they relate to assessment and evaluation goals (including the state-mandated Teacher Performance Assessment) to guide course, program and unit improvement. Coordinates assessment activities and interpretation of data related to student progress, learning outcomes and GSOE educational programming and services. Interprets and applies various sets of assessment and evaluation policies; state and national standards; state credentialing and licensure requirements; and procedures, rules and regulations particularly as they relate to the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC), Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) and the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE).
Representative DutiesKNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: • Extensive computer literacy to meet demands of this position and perform duties related to data for assessment and accreditation purposes • Demonstrated ability to determine priorities and meet project deadlines with frequent interruptions • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral; ability to articulate in high-level interpersonal situations and groups OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS: • Ability to work under pressure, exuding a mature demeanor while multi-tasking in a deadline-oriented environment with accuracy and consistency • Ability to work collaboratively with a team, as well as an independent contributor • Ability to exercise good judgment and discretionary skills in determining when to act independently and when to consult management prior to taking action • Self-starter with a positive attitude • Willingness to work in agreement with the mission, purpose and goals of California Lutheran University • Requires repetitive motions and sitting at computer keyboard • Hearing and speaking on the telephone • Able to conduct business with other offices on campus • Able to lift, bend, grasp, reach, lift up to 20 lbs. occasionally • Other duties as assigned by the Dean
Education and ExperienceREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Earned Master’s degree from an accredited institution in education or related discipline and three years of relevant professional experience in an institution of higher education • Possession of a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain by date of hire • Ability to use tact and diplomacy to effectively handle a broad range of high level and confidential interpersonal situations with diverse personalities, and to respond appropriately to conflicts and problems • Ability to initiate, establish, and foster communication and teamwork by maintaining a positive, cooperative, productive work atmosphere in and outside the University with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within a diverse population and with those from various cultural backgrounds. • Thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling and punctuation • Ability to interpret, communicate and apply policies and procedures • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to set own priorities to coordinate multiple assignments with fluctuating and time-sensitive deadlines. • Working knowledge of or ability to quickly learn University infrastructure, policies and procedures PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Hold California Teaching Credential and/or Administrative Services Credential SPECIAL CONDITIONS: • Must be willing to travel and attend training programs off-site for occasional professional development. • Must be able to work weekends, overtime, occasional holidays, and adjust working hours to meet special jobs. May be called back periodically to perform work as needed on an emergency basis. • This position is an 11-month contract.
