Basic Function
Under the guidance of the Director of the Annual Fund, the assistant director is responsible for assisting in the planning and implementation of the University’s annual fund program.
Representative Duties
 Work directly with the Director of the Annual Fund on the development and planning of key initiatives of the annual fund program. E
 Responsible for maximizing the results of the CLU Annual Fund’s unrestricted phone campaigns through effective management and supervision of the phone “center” operations. This position will report to the Director and will be responsible for the oversight of 3-4 student supervisors and approximately 35 student callers. Adjusted schedule to include weekend and evening hours. E
 In collaboration with the Director of the Annual Fund, the Assistant Director will establish and meet qualitative and quantitative goals for the phone program. The incumbent will be responsible for providing reports to track progress to the Director and other Advancement staff members as appropriate. E
 Successfully identify, solicit and steward alumni and other constituents for gifts to the University. Schedule and complete personal donor visits. E
 Work with database/research staff in coordinating phone campaign and other efforts relating to donor acquisition, solicitation and stewardship. E
 Support the Director on meeting the annual dollar objectives established for current unrestricted gift income. E
 Manage key programs for the annual fund to successful completion within the goals and guidelines established by the Director. E
 Develop, plan and coordinate student annual fund activities/solicitations. E
 Oversee and be accountable for event and program budgets and remain within budget. E
 Work with the Director on evaluation of events and activities. E
 Supervise and guide staff and student workers assigned to the annual fund. Ability to hire, train, motivate and evaluate staff/student workers. E
 Act as the official representative of the Annual Fund program at University functions in the absence of the Director; present CLU’s mission/vision to gathered groups as needed. E
 Perform related duties as assigned. E
Knowledge Of
University fund-raising goals and objectives.
Knowledge of University mission, goals, and objectives.
Planning, organization and direction of annual fund programs and fundraising principles specific to telemarketing.
Excellent motivational and management skills. High energy level with a positive can-do attitude.
Effective communication, both oral and written; effective presentation skills with regard to mission/vision of CLU; ability to articulate a compelling case for support.
Establishing and maintaining cooperative and effective working relationships with co-workers and management; relationship development with alumni and other constituencies.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to review and evaluate statistical information.
Operation of computer and office equipment including Microsoft suite, some graphic design and data management programs.
The Internet and its use as a communication tool; web design a plus.
Budget preparation and analysis for annual fund events.
Principles and practice of volunteer motivation/coordination and student supervision
Management of schedules and timelines.
Education and Experience
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in related field and two years prior experience with alumni relations, development, and/or event planning. Personal characteristics include creativity, initiative and confidence, as well as the ability to attend to details and speak confidently in public to various sized groups.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid California driver’s license
Adjusted schedule to include weekend and evening hours
Some travel required
